A cleanroom is an environment that has a low level of environmental pollutants such as dust, airborne microbes, aerosol particles and chemical vapors. The level of contamination in the cleanroom is controlled to a certain amount of particles per cubic feet. The Cleanroom class specifies how the level of contamination. A ISO 1 cleanroom has the lowest levels of contamination, while a ISO 9 has the highest allowable level. The air entering a cleanroom from outside is filtered to exclude dust, and the air inside is constantly recirculated through high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) and ultra low penetration air (ULPA) filters to remove internally generated contaminants.
