Roskilde Flames via pygment July 12th, 2008 at 00:22

image Radiohead were amazing better than the Dublin gig, they had the same show but they didn’t play creep, thank God. Great atmosphere and great weather, Thom seemed to be having a good time. Yeasayer put on a great show, lots of energy and the plenty of the Rock symbols from from the lead singer. Of course like all American bands they had to apologies for Bush, can’t wait till they have something else to apologies for. Have to go see them again and the new tracks sound great. Black Mountain, about 100 times better than I thought it would be, the female vocalist was outstanding and we couldn’t see the lead singers face, it was all hair and beard. The music was other worldly, another band I have to see again. Holy Fuck rock, bit like Battles. I’d go out of my way to see...

Paddy’s Mandocaster via Bock the Robber April 28th, 2007 at 21:49

I must show you something, said Wrinkly Paddy and leapt up from his chair.Look at this! he exclaimed, pulling something out of a bag. I got it last week.I reached out and took it. It's a guitar, I told him. A very small electric guitar. A child's electric guitar, in fact. With that, I handed it back to him, grinning smugly.Look again, said Paddy, holding the instrument out to me.On closer inspection, though it certainly seemed to be an unfeasibly small electric guitar, I noticed something not often found on guitars: it had four pairs of strings.Good God, man! I ejaculated. Is it - ? It's not a - ?It is indeed, my good fellow, replied Wrinkly Paddy. What you hold in your hand is none other than an electric mandolin.Well, I said. Fuck me sideways if it ain't.Indeed, said Paddy,...

Unfringed via Fústar January 30th, 2007 at 14:51

image Just a quick note to remind my fellow Limerickians that the 10th annual Unfringed festival will run (in various places/spaces around the city) from the 31st Jan (i.e. tomorrow) – 10th Feb. Details of the various treats on offer – theatrical, musical, cinematic, artistic – can be found here or on one of the handsome posters/flyers that are doing the rounds (I picked up mine in The White House). I draw your attention particularly to Rotozaza's performance of 5 a.m. in the Morning (Belltable, Feb 4th, 8 p.m.), for the perfectly acceptable reason that one of the performers (a Mr. Greg McLaren) is an old school friend of the wife's (and she from Bristol…small world and all that jazz). For those who like to use such occasions to get smashed, an Unfringed Club will run every...

Samhain/Halloween via Advanced Technology Products Interactive October 30th, 2006 at 10:11

image Happy Samhain. When the dead return and we remember those who have passed. Its also the celtic new year. In the celtic calander the night come before the day, and winter before summer. Thats why halloween is so big compared to all hallows day. Samhain a harvest festival and a fire festival. Tradition says the dead are allowed to return to earth for halloween. Thats why the custom of lighting your house for the night was born and why fires are lit. Customs include leaving food out for the dead, feasting and revelry, dressing up as ghosts and monsters and divination in the form of barn bracs and bobbing for apples. Fires are lit and fireworks are set off (despite being banned in ireland if you dont have a licence). Pity our day off in ireland is not the day itself but the last monday...
